Fractional (Rational) Exponents
Rational exponents are also known as fractional exponents. A value raised to the 1/2 power is the same as the square root of that number. A value raised to the 1/3 power is the same as the cube root of that number. The diagram below explains how to convert from a rational exponent into a root. Copy it into your notes.
All of the rules of exponents still apply to rational exponents as seen in the chart above. You will need to use the rules for adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions since the powers are fractions.
